“If you want to know what your thoughts were like in the past, look at your body today. If you want to know what your body will be like in the future, look at your thoughts today.” Rudolph E. Tanzi, Super Brain
How does stress effect you? and, how do you cope?
Today’s subject, COPING WITH STRESS. Weekly we talk to candidates who are often dealing with some kind of stress, whether that be toxicity in the workplace, caring for vulnerable relatives, juggling career and family, the pressure of bills, grieving the loss of a loved-one, the list, of course, is endless.
Your hope & inspiration: Coping mechanisms
- Resist self-judgement, be easy on yourself, accepting that ups and downs of emotions is natural and normal
- Pursue a regular routine – this helps offset unpredictable events
- Make time for yourself daily to be alone and quiet – even 5 minutes is proven to re-set the brain
- Don’t martyr yourself by taking on more than you can handle – you’re not a machine
- Find a confidant with whom you can share your feelings without judgement
- Where there is the possibility of finding joy, pause, take a moment to appreciate how that feels.
- Ask for help when you feel overwhelmed
Try this: Start a journal | Write down on separate pages each of the coping mechanisms above as a heading – or choose your own from online resources | Under each coping behaviour, write down something you can do immediately to adopt that behaviour | Follow up every day with your successes when a copy mechanism is beginning to work for you.
Here at ACS Talent Acquisition & Recruitment Consultancy we provide candidates a free service, our objective is to take you, from where you are, to where you want to be – we genuinely want you to be happier, you thrive – we thrive, our clients flourish.
